My AR Project + Proposal

SWOT for spider idea:
Strengths: It is a clear and effective way of displaying augmented reality. Visually striking/likely to get a response out of the user.
Weaknesses: Spider would have to be animated which may be tricky/Would take some practice to understand how a spider walks.
Opportunities: I have a small knowledge of how to use trigger points which would make the animation possible.
Threats: It would require finer tuned trigger points which is difficult since a computer doesn't have a lot of clear landmarks to attach a trigger point to
SWOT for UFO idea:
Strengths: Simple and easy, doesn't require as much complex animation as the spider. Minimal design but still effective and recognisable as to what the object is.
Weaknesses: May be too simple. Not very visually striking and not as impressive as a spider, which employs a small horror element.
Opportunities: Allows me to focus on the quality of the animation, allows me to work with trigger images in a focused way.
Threats: Putting any animation in to BlippAR may prove difficult.
SWOT for fruit juice bottle:
Strengths: Has a clear point, could be used in the context of advertising. The brand logo is recognisable and means I can forgo finding or making my own trigger image. This project would have a clearer theme and isn't just animation for the sake of animation.
Weaknesses: Possibly won't be as visually impressive as an animation.
Opportunities: Branded object that has a clearer theme, trigger image makes it more visually interesting combined with the actual point of the BlippAR.
Threats: The busyness of the bottle design may make it difficult for BlippAR to locate the trigger image.
Basic plan for spider idea:
A spider crawls out from behind the computer and across the monitor before disappearing behind the monitor again. Spider frames will be drawn in Photoshop and made in to an animated object and uploaded to BlippAR with a picture of a spider as the trigger image.
Basic plan for UFO idea:
A very simple image of a UFO is used as a trigger image. A simple animation of the UFO seems to 'lift off' the image and flies away. UFO will be drawn in Photoshop and animated in After Effects.
Basic plan for Ribena bottle:
The trigger image is a picture of a strawberry Ribera bottle. When trigger around 5 cartoon strawberries will pop up around the bottle and possible sway back and forth and bob in the air. Strawberries will be drawn in Photoshop and bobbing will be animated in After Effects in animation is needed.
Justification for my chosen AR project:
I want to use the Ribena idea in my AR project as it is the most entertaining and visually pleasing out of the three ideas as well as being the most developed. It is a brand that most people recognise and can also access easily since the product will be around them in supermarkets and their homes. I also have experience as an artist and as an animator. Because of this I have an advantage with making complex images as I know I'm able to create something of higher quality. The project also has a valid purpose, as it could be used for advertisement, making it practical and not just entertaining. The final reason I am choosing this project is because the Ribena logo is a clear, ready made trigger image that BlippAR would not have trouble finding.
Proposal for my final project:
I want my project to be similar to the way that Ribena have marketed their product in the past: usually in a very cartoonish, ridiculous way that draws in young people, AKA from ages 10-19, although the drink is enjoyed by most age groups. To do this, I want to use a cartoonish effect with the bobbing strawberries. I will use Photoshop to make the strawberries, and After Effects to animate them. I will need a Wacom graphics tablet to do this. After I've made the animation, I will make sure that it is transparent and import it on to BlippAR over my trigger image. The intention of the project is to advertise the project in a way that makes the product appeal to it's target audience. My research has led me to believe that young people will like this format of advertisement due to young people being much more technology literate, especially when it is relatively new and novel technology.
